Default SM 610 engine noise question

    Hi!!

I just bought my first sm 610 last night,Its a used one and it had 9500 kilometers on it.Im not familiar with these engines but There is a little knocking noise at idle and as soon as you rev it up its gone. Its this normal on these bikes?

timing chain is a 7 click?

    Thanks

Yes, I beleive this is normal. Mine is very noisy at idle compare to other bikes I have owned. I beleive part of it could be the automatic decompression valve at real low idle.

I will change the timing chain soon So maybe it will help a little bit on the noise.

My 2008 610 has made this noise since new. If I blip the throttle it goes away. I believe it has to do with the automatic decompression. As for your cam chain, if you are at 7 clicks, you should be fine -- at 10 or so clicks you should replace your cam chain. My 2008 has about 2000 miles and is at 6-7 clicks.

I just changed my timing chain and adjusted the valves(they were are .003" and beleive it or not there is no noise coming out of that engine anymore....no matter if its idle or reving

It was at 8 clicks.and it brought it down to 3 clicks

Just did my first real ride today. Is it just my bike or does the engine sound more noisy after a long ride?

My guess would be that the oil is hot after a ride and less viscous which will make normal engine noise more noticeable. I wouldn't worry about it and be glad it's not a Ducati or KTM, they have noisy motors. LoL

I never heard them and didnt know they were noisy...I almost bought a ktm 625 but I read that they had alot more vibrations compared to the husky 610.

All single cylinder bikes vibrate, some more than others. The KTMs and Ducatis have noisy clutches. It sounds worse than it really is. All engines make some sort of clatter with all those moving parts, when something goes bad, you will know it.

ya u know how to fix this problem..a buddy of mine at a ktm dealer figured out why his ktm was knockin so loud..its the fuel..even though we put 93 in everything its still not enough because of how crappy our fuel is...what i did to get rid of it..was load upp on 93 octane and threw a hole bottle of octane boost in it...tryd it.and it worked..quieter then ever..try it out let me know how it goes
