    Default XR100 to CRF100 conversion?

    Hey Guys,

Just bought a 97 XR100 for a couple hundred bucks...........pretty ugly but hey its whatever.

The bike is for a girl, so Im wanting to refurb it and make it a little more pretty. Thinking of going to the CRF100 body but unsure if its a direct bolt on or if Id need to chop and weld the crap out of everything to make it work. That would be lame.

So, If anyone has converted, please let me know. Im planning on completely rebuilding this thing and Id love some tips to upgrades. Better swingers (CR85???) Better front end (CR85???) I know that there is a cr85 to 100 engine conversion but Id rather just buy a CR125 or something for her when appropriate. Building a cool 100 is good enough.

Oh and is meir (sp?) the only source of pink goods? Ive been told several times that their quality is sketch at best as far as fitment.

Oh and by the way...........anyone wanna help me pick an affordable rim selection. Will need new hoops and hubs to go motard or keep stock but at least change the color. Its a hundo.........cant spend a grand for a bike I bought for 350

    Help a brother out?

The back half of the frames are completely different and so are the mounting points for the fuel tank.
As for pink plastic yes maires is the only source.

that really sucks to hear. I was hoping that wasnt the case. I really dont wanna chop one up to make it work. Maybe Ill just buy another and use this one as the beat down pig.

The mounts are only slightly different i have a 97 with the newer style plastics the gas tank should bolt right up the side plates are a little tricky but not hard at all.

A cheap wheel fix is to find a front wheel off an xr80 16in they work really well for roadracing and for dirt use for about 20 to 50 bucks. 12s dont have enuff ground clearance and 17s offer better tire selections but the xr is not going to be that fast anyway to spend that kind of money i race the bike inthe dirt on the road and in the indoor motard track.

    Thanks Derrick,

If you managed it with no real welding Im down to give it a go.

I imagine I need to order everything...........oh well I guess its off to the races then for me. Need to start gathering up some parts.

If I recall correctly there are no differences mechanically only aesthetically.

So I ordered up CRF100 Plastics..........should be fun.

I think Im gonna swap out to the CR85 front end, which means I'll end up with the 17" front wheel and a disc brake......

Now, what do I do about that back wheel? Its missing at least a single spoke that looks like it got ripped out. Id like to take the wheels and pimp them out but Im not doing it unless I can convert the rear wheel to disc or something.

Anyone have any good swaps for that? Wheel and brakes only? Complete swinger?

I think that you are going to have to modify the cr85 tripple clamps to fit the xr.I think that a front end from a 1986 cr80 will bolt up and it has a disc brake. I am not sure what you have to do to make a disc brake work in the rear. My son ha s won 2 championships with our xr it has bbr 120 and aTB 132 big bore kit A ported head a lightend fly wheel ,hotcams cam, amr coil and a bored out fmf pipe.and rws fork brace. it is pretty quik for what it is we have never had issues with slowing the bike down the stock brakes do suck but that is part of what makes so fun to ride.Choose you mods to what type of racing you have in mind and to what type of bikes that you will be racing against you could be competitive with 652s on short tracks with a dirt section but on a roadrace course with along straight it is going to be hard with the mods that I have I am planning on a better shock and a takegawa superhead. but some mods I don't think is worth the small gains Like the 17s aftermarket wheels the race frames.

I have a cr85 front end on my crf100. Took quite a bit of machine shop work. The difference in handling and braking was dramatic. I think the cr80 swap is much simpler, or there is a kit available to put kx front forks on.

The 86' CR 80 trees are a bolt on- with swapping out the bearing to XR 100 style or pick up a XR/CRF/50/70 tapper conversion kit. All the 33mm CR 80 forks legs will interchange 86-95'- also, Front wheels and front brakes 86'-07'

I'v seen custom stems aviabable for the 96'-07' CR 85 fork. Through ProCycle in NY. likly have more into the fork conversion than the bike LOL

As for the Swing arm, I have KX85,CRF150R,CR85 and KX65 in my parts inventory. The KX 85 look very doable with some machining. The KX65 is a bolt on in regards to the pivot area. Over all length (for 14/16" wheels) and sprocket offset are the down falls of the KX65 swing'r. Would be perfect to run 12's.

I heard the old style CR 80 swingarms are close? Have yet to confirm this my self....

Having a stem spun up is not a big deal for me. Just wanted to know what was involved for the swap as of now. Thanks for the heads up, going to keep pushing forward on this project.

If any of you have more advice, please keep it comming. Im all ears at this point. Spending money like a fool. Going to paint the frame and engine here pretty soon.
