Looks like I'm a bit late, but the JR50 is only appropriate for the tiniest of kids really.
I still recommend the Spec Thumpstars for beginner mini-tard action.
Better give him installation for his birthday.![]()
Xr 100 or TTR 125 is the way to go that 50 will bore you quick.

tis true- unless your Carlo!!!
And the $4000 motor part.
Let me take that back every rider has a bike of choose and if they are happy with a 50 then so be it its all about the fun anyway
that is true Phil BUT a 50 will need a LOT of money thrown at it to get it up to a basically stock 100's "level" to be in the ball park.
let's look at it like this- take 10 riders with even skill levels and put them on CRF100's
built to the same standard.lets call it built to a "5"
take carlo on a CRF50 built to a "5"
i'd wager carlo will finish in last place.
would you agree?
I hear you,I also look at it like this. You can buy 4 XR 100 by the time you build one XR 50.I went through the stages of building crazy bikes it was fun to push the envelope on your ability's.It does hurt the sport though because the average guy cant Any up to the level.I am slowly trying to work the riders back to all stock motors to make it funner and more affordable.I will have a couple of classes for those that choose to go crazy on their bikes.Creativity is good.I want growth and numbers though.
Best of luck to everyone this year.
Not tryin to argue with anyone, but the way i see it is after you start gettin up in the 110 or 125cc bike it kinda isnt a "mini" bike anymore to me, just my opinion tho.

That is a good point and I was just referring to small bike racing in general.
Kinda funny most of our racers are on budget bikes....... a few high end machines.
More of us are looking to step back and regroup with some very very basic minis to add to our quivers.
Case in point is HRCNic has a TTR110 that people just about fight and throw fists over to ride!
My 15 yo son at 6' 215lbs is dying for me to get a replacement CRF50 with only improved suspension, pipe, carb, cam, cdi.
All the built bikes should be referred to as "super-minis" or maybe "hybrid-minis" mini is still appropriate for most of the bikes but when you do the 17" wheel its not a true mini. IMHO
Enjoy your "mini" try and make the trip up the the Mimra mini Mash, some of your Nashville crew is doing a road trip....

i agree with Teddy. mini's to me are 10 or 12" wheels.
17's are not in my mind a mini anymore so i guess i need to start saying i race a mini
AND a Supermini. i like that.
