according to gearing commander, that's a 15mph drop in top speed.

That is crazy... if they even make such a thing.

Why would you want this? Parking lot stunting or something?

I'm too lazy to do the math right now, but that would seriously limit your top speed, kill your mpg and accelerate the wear on your drivetrain. You would also need to lengthen your chain.

The first three gears would be totally useless, unless like I said, you are looking to limit your bike to a severe stunt / trail set up.

go down 1 tooth on counter shaft...to a 14, you can get these for $16 from www.rockymountatv.com Going down one tooth on c/s is like going up 3 teeth on rear sprocket and cheaper..

yeah a 50 on the back would make the highway miserable.. you would pretty much be almost topped out just cruising with traffic... i have a +5 on back and it works on the highway but its screaming

+1 to all the above. Most guys who run the highway a lot get the Driven 16T (+1) front CS sprocket just to help keep the dizzer from being so buzzy at speed.

I have a 13,14&15 c/s and a 39 rear and can get away with using one chain. Works well!!

Yep. That's a good way to take some of the edge off the DRZ. I only had to remove about 2mm from the case saver for everything to clear.. easy.

It would be worthless at anything above 45 mph and you would need a new chain for that big of a change. At least 112 links with that setup.

    Default gearing

Dude, my DRZ stock was 15/41 (you know that already). I switched to 15/44 and my top speed went from 159kph down to 145 absolutely maxed out. With the stock gearing 120 was comfortable on the highway. At 44 teeth it made things noisy and buzzy. The main reason I did it was because I was turning laps at a local go kart track and the change meant I didn't have to go down to first anywhere in the lap. One plus is that you can comfortably start from a light in 2'nd gear and skip that big swing through neutral. Otherwise I wouldn't recommend it unless you avoid the highway completely.

Having said all that, the one highway ride I did with the low gearing was 600k long and I survived so it can be done.

    Cheers,

    T
