since we are in the middle of silly season and yet to hear any concrete plans for the 2010 season I thought I would start a thread on ideas of a new system. I think AMA Pro Supermoto should join forces with all the Local/Regional series around the country to help promote our sport. For example. Take a group of youth, amatuer, and pro classes that all could agree upon and run a combined effort. they could keep track of all points earned by the racers of each class and total it for the end of the year class national champions. Make the points earned be based on each racers best 20 races. If the racer had 30 races at the end of the year then effectively they could throw out their worst 10 races and the total would be a total of their best 20. Then choose a venue for the end of the year championship event that would decide any tie situations head to head. This would involve all the supermoto racers nation wide and stream line all efforts toward a stronger healthyer sport. From what I am hearing promoters are relying on youth and amatuer classes to keep rider entries up. This would also allow local/regional racers to be involved on a national level without having to travel much. The AMA could keep points posted on a web site weekly and have each local/regional series provide an article about the past weeks events and keep averybody involved. I would bet all of the current sries would get stronger and riders numbers would increase and some new series would be formed. Lets hear some thoughts.
I agree. Without a 2010 National Series, no Xgames, and no factory support, this sport will die. At this moment our youth have absolutley no reason to race. There is no championship to win. If all the local and regional series would work together and create some sort of title winner (#1 plate), that would give parents a reason to want to drive all over the place and race for their child to race. I believe this sports lies in the hands of youth and amatuers. Give them something to race for!!!
