    Default Wow! 1st ride on mom's 250x

2 days ago we went out and got my mom a bone stock 2009 wr250x for her to learn on. We just couldnt pass up a mint 09 for 3900! Well today was the first day since then that it hasnt been raining so it was time for a test drive!

Well first things first. Why the hell arnt the rims 3.25 and 4.25? When riding I got to the edges of the tires so quick it was disappointing. A 120 tire in the front and 150 in the rear would have been the ticket. But as its still better than any sport bike Ive ever ridden Also its a pretty low sumo. Pegs where scraping all over the place. Which dont get my wrong, is tons of fun but the bikes barely leaning over! Pegs sliders are a definite must. Over all it was an awesome ride. It shifts soooo smooth, the FI is awesome and theres almost no vibration. The black is ugly IMO but I know must people think other wise. I think white would look sooo much better.

Well the bike is my moms, so I only rode it for about 20 minutes then I had to let her ride it. Im buying it off her when shes ready for a new bike

    Heres some pictures.

Yeah, its not hard to get rid of the chicken strips, I was also kinda disapointed there. As far as your clearance, it may have been lowered. Is that a yamalink beneath the shock? Not sure as I don't have one, but I don't remember seeing that on mine. Also the rear spring is pretty weak if you weigh anything over maybe 180. Looks pretty clean, seems like a steal.

The most surprising thing is the amount of power it has bone stock. Even in higher gears it picks up and goes pretty good! Not as good as say my 650 but definitely good for its size. But over all the most impressive thing is how it handles. Damn does this thing carve! Its soooo easy to throw around. Compared to my 650, the wr wins in flickability. I could see a 250 easily keeping up with me in tight stuff.

As for the speedo, I think your problem is the ramming of the nose of your bike into the pavement. In the future I would suggest not to flip stoppies! Actually the stock blinkers and tail light, while bright, seem extremely flimsy. That may be the same for the speedo.

When the stock tires go (sooner than you think) get some Bridgestone BT016's with a stock size front and a 150 rear... It fits almost perfectly and you'll be dragging peg before you hit the edge of the tire.

Why do you say "almost perfectly" ?

Its probably a little rounded. The problem with putting a larger tire on a rim is that your contact patch actually decreases. Im sure it wouldnt be nearly as bad as it is with my xrr. The stock tires actually stick pretty good which is surprising.

Wolfe pretty much hit the nail on the head. They feel a bit nervous at first due to the smaller contact patch, but once you get used to them they grip better than the stockers in the turns and with the harder center compound they don't flat spot nearly as quickly.

How about a 120 up front? I bought the BT016 size 150/60 but have not had the chance to ride it jet. I will need get a new front very soon.

Sorry for the delay, I stuck with the stock size front (can't remember off the top of my head) just because I couldn't see any reason to change. I was afraid of running off the edge of the rearon a 140 and 150's are so much more common, hence that change...
I did think of one fairly minor negative with the BT-016's though, if you ever ride in colder weather they take quite a bit longer to warm-up than the stockers and even the 250 has enough power to spin-up the rear when its cold. It almost hurt my feelings bad the first time it happened...
