I don't even bother draining the carb bowl. I do add some sta-bil and run it thru the system. I also take the bike outside and run it, ride it up+down the street if possible, every 2-3 weeks. But my racer stays in the living room, not a cold garage. If your bike is in a cold place, better put some anti-freeze in it.
Sta-bil works good, and keeps the fuel system from gumbo issues, and allows you to run it if you want. But when it comes time to race, I put in fresh fuel. 110 octane race gas.

I was just looking into buying VP race gas for the first time. I find that it comes in several sizes of cans, 5 gal. sealed container being the smallest ($65). The store owner said you can keep it in your bike, but you should keep your bike (or the leftover gas that's in the container) in a controlled environment. It doesn't like sweeping changes in temperature. If it's in a metal can, keep a piece of wood under it so it is off the concrete floor. Anyway, the point is I was told by an expert that you can keep it in your bike. It's oxygenated fuel that you don't want to leave in your bike, he said. That's all I know.

I think there is only one kind of VP that is even remotely stable, we let our race bikes sit for four months and they fired off and ran but when we had to pull the carbs off everthing rubber was either eaten away or solid as a rock, we used the "stable" version which I think is the unleaded VP u-4.2 otherwise I believe you should drain it completely out, either way that stuff is hard on rubber components but it will fire off and run.
If you can't get it done with 40 hp you shouldn't try it.

The VP U4.2 is suposed to be ok to leave in the bike. I don't know, I don't run that stuff. I run 110 octane pump race gas. No issues. Storage just like everyday gas.
