    Default OIl Leak KTM SMR

I have a KTM 560 smr and it leaks oil out of the output shaft. I replaced the seal, but it did not fix the problem. Has anyone else ever had this problem, or know any possible fixes?

Output shaft? Is that what the counter sprocket sits on? If so there are a few fixes described on ktmtalk.com.

Just taking off the inner sleeve, cleaning the space underneath the sleeve, and packing it with grease before putting the sleeve back in fixed this problem for me. Mine was caused by not having the cupped washer for my front sprocket.

Check your clutch slave cylinder just above and a little right of your output shaft. I replaced the shaft seal and oring but my leak came back and I found the slave to be a little loose. Took it off cleaned everything up tightened it all down and no problems so far. That is if your motor is the same as my lc4?

Thanks for the input. I think I will try pulling the sprocket off and take the sleve out, clean it, and pack it with grease. I have oil all over my case from the chain flinging it around and it really bothers me. Ill will hopefully do it this weekend and have an update of the results next week.

    Here are a few more:
    Replace spring washer
Make sure your counter sprocket has a raised area (stock KTM does) on the back side which helps pressure the spring washer.
    Correct countershaft bolt torque important.
After all this, I still found a drop or two in the morning with my 560 SMR.
Live with it ... fun bike

How loose do you run your chain? Too tight of a chain can have the leaky effect. It might leak even at the chain tension suggested by KTM.

That raised area presses against the spring washer, right? How pressurized should the sprocket be? When I fixed mine, I torqued it to 44ft/lbs, and I can still slide it right to left a little.

Just reread what I wrote. The raised area on the back side of the sprocket faces the engine case and pushes onto the chrome bushing with rubber o-ring. The spring washer adds pressure to the sprocket and hence the bushing. I would be careful torquing beyond recommended KTM specs. I did this while trying to eliminate the leak and SNAPPED OFF the head on the hardened bolt. What a bitch. Drilling and drilling and chiseling ... .

is factory spec 40ft/lbs? I was trying to remember the factory spec off the top of my head. I know a bit about breaking bolts...
It sounds like my sprocket is on backwards!
Thanks alot man, I'm glad I didn't get any further in my build before I found that out.

    Fixed!
When I bought the bike, the previous owner had his sprocket on like I did too! Maybe that had something to do with my bad wheel/slider damage?
