Default Crash at adams 2 views

brakelate and i were doing alittle gopro film work today and he ended up going down hard. He had tetge's new hd gopro on his helmet and i had his gopro on my bike facing back, so we got two views of the crash.

I had the GoPro HD on Brakelate's helmet set on its weakest resolution (r1 WVGA 848X480) since I intended to test them all because the 1080p video output is not working. But, Brakelate crashed so that was the end of the test. Here is another segment of some laps in the same track session just prior to the crash
http://vimeo.com/7751445 . I have a lot of video to work with but the crash sort of slowed me down. If the video seems a bit not smooth, that seems to be my issue with the new camera. I am in contact with GoPro and they say it is my AMD PC's and myu software and hardware layers. I tend to think that there is an issue with my particular camera. We are still communicating. Meanwhile I test.

Result is a few broken ribs, a banged up knee, shoulder and lower legs.

My knee looks like this beast after wrapping, elevating and icing for hours. Can't really tell scale in the pic, but it's about grapefruit sized.

As soon as I can breath right, I can sit up to work on the footage. I want to see more too, as we only focused on the last 2 seconds, that being crash footage.

There were several full sessions of awesome stuff going on from a couple different cameras that need to be processed and posted. We were having a great time, with nice, close high speed action all day before this little goof up on the last lap. Isn't that always the way it goes?

From what I've seen so far, the good times and incredible footage made the get-off well worth it.

+1 If you must crash, at least get it on video. I wish my numerous crashes came with equally good trophies (+1000 pts street/pub cred).

When you're tired or frustrated then..... Whack! every time...

    Glad you're 'OK' BTW

Pretty sure it was second. Possibly third, as I couldn't really tell when they removed the shift lever from my spleen.

Seriously, a Fieldsheer 1pc roadrace padded leather suit and boots, a Bell full face helmet and Frank Thomas road race style gloves.

I will post pics of the gear when I get more energy. It surely saved me ALOT of grief. Only one little "strawberry" on my elbow and a mark where the padded shoulder "cup" was smashed into my shoulder. I have a couple bruised fingers and toes, but amazed that was it. All of the damage was really "blunt force trauma" from impact, rather than any rash. And the pads helped in untold measure. I am sure I would have a shattered knee cap and splintered collar bone had it not been for the gear. The helmet worked flawlessly too, as it was a newer Bell, and I didn't have so much as a headache or anything. Hell, my prescription glasses were not tweaked and did not bruise my ear or cut into the bridge of my nose as I always feared they would in a crash.

It was a nasty quick "low" high-side. Meaning it spun me from full left lock out to unloading me up and over into the pavement. All the energy seemed to force me down and into the ground, rather than vaulting me into the air as most high sides do. Not sure if that was better or not, but when I hit the ground, I stopped immediately... no energy shedding slide action at all. Just balled up on the upper part of my back, above my right shoulder blade and right knee, pile driving me into the ground.

Thanks for all the support and funny comments. They really do keep me in good spirits and motivate me to heal quick so I can get back out there with all the rest of you Hoolies!

Here I am in the suit I was wearing, though I had a different (similar) full face helmet on.

It wasn't my old AGV suit on with moto helmet and boots that are shown in my Avatar, so I thought I would give you "before" shots.

Not sure how differently the results would have played out, had I been wearing the Moto-X helmet with goggles and taller, firmer, yet heavier motocross boots.

Do you think one of these would have helped your knees out more?
    http://www.motostrano.com/albisxknpr.html

Can you even wear these under a 1-suit? 'Cause I'm going to get my first 1-suit this January (the S-1 Alpinestars), but I'm not feeling the knee protection on it... What do you guys think?

I think there must be some mistake here Brakelate.
I thought the DRZ400 was supposed to be slow, but you don't look slow in those pics.
    Get well soon.

leather is definitely awesome, but in brakelate's case it actually seems that more dirtish gear would have potentially been better. I dont know a lot about gear, but have been told before that street gear is essentially designed to largely protect from sliding while mx gear is much more impact friendly. I use the Thors SM gear and it seems to do a decent job of walking the line. food for though jrod
