Default What weight/brand oil should I run??

I'm installing my pcIII and pu kit on my 08' 510sm and thought I'd go ahead and change the oil and check the valves while it's down. The previous owner changed it at 300 miles using formula moto 10w-60 full syn, I've got around 500 miles now and had rather use an oil I can purchase locally. I know 10w-60 is the correct weight but are there any other weights that will be suffice? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I use rotella in my other bikes for what it's worth.

I guess the correct answer would be Agip 10W60 full synthetic, as stated in the manual. If you search this topic, you will see that people use a variety of weights and brands. They all claim no engine problems from it. I think the best advice is use the best oil you can afford and change it as often as you can.

I use castrol Power1 synth 10w50 in all my bikes and all bikes are happy.

But brand does not matter. Use non-fake motorcycle synthetic oils from tested supplier and also be happy.
    Best regards, DEAN.

I use any band (there isn't many companies make 10/60 oil anyway) 10/60.Dont know wot the outside temperature is where you are,but Husky engines (or any performance motorbike) run hot so its best to have an oil that doesn't break down easily, especially in summer.I still change the oil 600 miles or so.

It depends on conditions...in summer i run 20-50 or if i spring for a case i'll run some nice 10-60. however when its cold like it is now (read in the thirties) its been very happy with 5w-40. Make sure to use a quality bike oil. This is one of the last places you ever want to skimp on money wise.

Anyone use Motorex? They are spec'd in KTM's, correct?

There are quite a few KTM dealers near me, and they have a 10w60.

Redline 20W-60 because I can buy it cheaper than Mobil 1 15W-50 (auto) i used previously for 10,000 miles. Mobil 1 felt better.

I have been using Mobil 1 15w-50 too. BJ's was recently unloading it for $9.90 for a box of 6 quarts. I bought 8 boxes. I should have bought more.

    FYI....

I run Spectra 20-50 petroleum/off road. But like wise use what you can afford and change it often.

I use Mobil 1 15W-50 (auto). I buy the 5 qt jugs at Wal Mart for $22 a jug.

The best deal for oil IMO, and I've had no issues using this oil for over 20+ years in all of my 4T bikes (sport, track/race, tard, street tard).

I change my oil & filter every 1K miles in my single cylinder bikes, so at that frequency of change, I doubt any specific brand of oil will be an issue.
