    Question Rusty stock exhaust pipe

I tried a search for rust and rusty exhaust but no luck. I just picked up a drz and the part of the pipe that comes from the head then bends into a 'u' (header pipe?) is a little brown and rusty looking.
Besides replacing or wrapping it, is there a way to properly clean it or is this just a normal thing for a drz that's gone into some mud and water?
    Thanks!!!

Its just steel. throw a little wire wheel on a drill and go to town, then just spritz it with some rust proof heat paint like "BBQ black" (flat black heat resistant paint for grills) from your local hardware store. It'll last for a long time Ive done it a million times. Best to take your pipe off and do it to by the way.

Best way to clean that sucker up is to take it off, and re-mount a Stainless full system from MRD You won't be disappointed

If you must keep the stocker on there, ignore it, all dirt bikes have dirty headers!

This has always been a sire spot for me. I HATE rusty header pipes. Stock headers will rust as well as stainless. The heat is what does it. If you notice it get nicer as it goes back. There is no way to prevent it. Even if you take it off and clean it with a wire wheel it will look like shit in a week. Your options are 1. Clean and BBQ paint it black. 2. Get a titanium header 3. Have the stock header jet hot coated. I will be doing this to my 09 crf. 4. You can header wrap it. Personally I like the look of a nice clean header pipe.

Don't wrap it! I did that to my stock pipe to hide the rust and it made it rust way faster. If you ride no the street and get caught in the rain the wrap will just hold it in. The best thing to do is clean it and paint it like these guys are saying. When the paint starts to fad touch it up. As long as theirs paint on it, it wont rust.

Kool. Thanx for the replies. It is def getting replaced with a full system shortly but until then I guess I'll just paint it. Now, are u guys sayng BBQ because it's a cheap high temp paint or is there another reason? I can get the VHT paint for fairly cheap as well so I'm curious as to y BBQ paint.
