    Default Bar end weight problems

Well, I bought a new pro taper seven eights bar for my 05 SM. When I was installing it, I had to sand down two mounting tabs off the switches and noticed that I couldn't install the stock bar end weights because of the smaller inside diameter of the pro taper bar compared to the stock bar.

    My question...

I noticed that the 07 bar end weights are a different number same with the rubber piece that fits in the bar that the bar end weights mount to. Will these fit my new pro taper bar that has the smaller inside diameter?

Try the SME bar end sliders, nine bucks and they work well with hand guards, if you have them. If you don't have handguards(why not?) they won't work though. Not sure about the stock weights, as I took mine off. They're probably in my garage somewhere if you want them though.

Not a bad product. I more or less want to know if the 07 and up bar end weight mounts that fit in the bar fit on a set of pro taper bars.

I had to have mine turned down at work to fit the I D for my 08 Renthal fat bars. After that you can reuse the old hardware to mount he barends.
Find a local machinist or buddy and spot him or her a 12 pack or 10-20 bucks to turn them down and you're all set.

How did you fit the stock rubber bar end holders piece in the bars? It seems like its too big for the inside diameter.

Use the hardware from hand guards made for Pro Taper bars. Zeta makes a replacement set that runs less than $20. You can pick it up from Forrest at Wheeling Cycle Supply.

Is this what you're talking about?

    No. You need these:

    Replacement Bar End Adapter: 13.5mm-19mm

    Part No. ZE74-0910

My stock barend's for the 08 model have the rubber compression style hardware that I re-used with my new plastic bar sliders. After we machined the sliders down I just swapped components to get the correct diameter I needed.
I'm guessing that your 05 model bars had a normal 7/8" OD and not the thick I D that the Renthals or Pro tapers use for rigidity and to help keep their shape during crashes.
If this is the case then yes you will have trouble getting the rubber component into the new bars. You will either have to shave the rubber down to get it to fit the new bars with a grinder (stinky work) or use a knife to cut it to fit.
    Good luck.
