anybody got feedback?
is it too much for the street?
what about very short highway stints (other than the 80miles i need to do to go to the track, which im willing to suffer)
?
thanks

I gotta keep an eye on this one.......I'd like to go up 1 or 2 on the rear but i'm afraid of the 25 mile each way highway commute to work w/ gearing that high. Someone posted on here that they went 46 i think on the rear and still went al out on the highway and it screamed like crazy! I'd like to go up a few to have a snappier throttle (read easier wheelies) in third or fourth gear).

46 i way too much...i reckon...i gotta admit the bike is much much better now with full pipe, 3x3, FCR and intake cam..i wonder if 44s gonna take it too far
I had a 44 on mine, but i also had a 450 big bore kit and some other work done to it. It actually did pretty well on the street, and it was ok on the freeway. It could handle it at a constant 70-75mph but i wouldnt do it everyday or for more than 30minutes at a time.
how would it be for a 125km, or 70mile ride, at 65mph?doable...?
Right now I have the 39mm fcr, full yoshi ti, and 15/45 gearing(How I bought it) For street use it is fine. It has get up and go in any gear. 1st gear is 80% useless because it goes so quick, but 2-5 are fun. For highway stints, It will cruise at 60-75 at around 8k in 5th.. I have done 86 mph but it starts to weave when you get over 85. Even though its semi screaming at those speeds it doesn't feel like its working that hard. DRZs like to up there anyways. Would I take a 100 mile trip on the highway? Probably not. But thats why I have my 54.
I have almost the same set up and gearing. I am a big guy to say the least. I feel its a bit much on the engine to maintain highway speeds above 65mph. I love my DRZ, but I barely used it on the street because I needed to ride highway to get most places I go to.
On my stock DRZ I ran a 48 tooth rear for my track bike. Stock it really helped. The 07 set up like above it was too low. 44th is nice, and you can always switch back for highway trips. Where a 48 you need chain work.

would a 43 make a diff for highway stints of 80 miles?
I'm running 15/46 on mine with no problems... Mine is an DrZ kicker, completley stock except for an RMZ exhaust and 3x3 mod. I ride almost 60 mi a day on it mostly highway.. It buzzes along and drinks gas at about 40mpg..

15/46 here and i commute highway

when doing wheelies...2nd and 3rd gear...do you find yourself ahving to go slower? because of the way the torque curve is diff?
15/44 here too..on a stocker...Good all around gear....Stand ups at 45 no problem

15/44 here. All around it's great!

any of you find that the wheelies are slower?
i clutch up at around 19mph in second...i suck at 3rd clutch ups..with a 44 rear, will i need to go slower to clutch up in 2nd or 3rd or 4th? since ill be at a higher rpm given the same speed, and thus perhaps less in the sweet spot.
I had a 16/41 on mine and that was the best I ever had for the DRZ. My brother used 15/41 and liked it... I didn't. So it all depends on your riding scenario and riding preferences. I always felt that with the 16 front that it could pull each gear a bit higher. Remember 1 tooth up in the front is comparable to 3 tooth up in the rear.
What is the stock SM set-up?
14/48 on stock motor morks nice tops out at 92 on freeway i ride free way alot to see girlfriend hour and half ride

spamrot can you keep the safty cage with a 16 tooth?
I tried a 16 and there are some pretty bad interference issues.. the chain guide for one.. will need to be cut.. and the case saver has to be ground down.. i would have to grind mine even more to get it to fit because the chain is still rubbing but it wouldn't save anything it would just snap like a twig! I would suggest staying 15 or lower on the front.. adjust the rear if you need taller gearing.
so nobody can tell me if 2, 3rd gear clutch ups need to be done at lower speeds cause of the larger 44 rear?
I can tell you that based on RPM and where the engine develops torque, you will have to be going slower to get the same torque/HP. BUT, with the shorter gearing, it will pick up easier. Both things considered, I doubt your wheelie speeds will change much at all. In fact, you may learn that you can wheelie at a much larger range of speeds. I'm not great at wheelies, but I could hardly clutch up 3rd with 16/41 and only at like 1 speed. Now, with 15/41, I can clutch up 3rd anywhere from like 28-40. Why are you so concerned with wheelie speed?
dont wanna short shitf 1st too much..
do you need to change the stock chain?somebody told me you did...to fit a 44?
yes?no?
i had to change mine for a 48

BBBBBBBBRRRRRRRRRRPPPP..........
ok guys i did it..it nuts...
but i have 3 questions:
1) is it me or can you clutch 2nd at almost anyspeed now?its like clutching first almost
2) at what speed do you clutch 3rd..
3)is your speedo fucked after a sprocket change?
I just ordered a -1 front from RockyMountain b/c they were on sale for ~$5. Right now I'm stock at 15/41. I will post back up what difference the 14/41 makes. I guess it should be about the same as...15/44 or so?
