Sounds like you need to move to Arizona. You can take a yz 250 2 stroke and make it street legal. I am in the process of putting my yz450 on the road and will be done soon!!

Hey 100% sure that michigan titles transfer. I just this weekend picked up a fine 03 gasgas and it went through without any problems.

I have a KTM 450 SMR with Wi plates. If you ask me no questions I will tell you no lies. I have all the equipment for the street. KTM's titles are not stamped for off-road use only. I am pretty sure if you had a title from out of state the DMV would not even look twice.

Kind of funny, I went to my dmv to register my 610sm today and the guy commented about all of these chinese bikes coming into the country. I didn't say anything about a Husky not being chinese, then he had me check a box on the title application to verify that it was even street legal. They have no clue what a moto bike is.

Try a different DMV. KTM's are the easiest to get titled cause they aren't stamped. their was a KTM that was titled in WI for sale a while back that had no lights on it at all and he got it plated.

When i lived in CA i had trouble getting it tag correctly from there red tag and green tags. You just have to find someone who knows what they are doing or make them look it up in a book and prove it to you that you cant.

I've been talking to a local aftermarket shop about the same thing. Bikes in WI need to be street legal from the factory with a vin# to register here. He has many customers that have tried converting as well as purchasing from out of state and he's heard no success stories. Oddly enough, in the statutes, WI says they are the most lenient as far as registering CARS, even stating that home builds are fine as long as they are inspected.
BTW, anyone know if the Husky TE450 or SM450R with the blinker kits and such are street legal from the dealer?
I guess those who got theirs through found the right person at their DMV to deal with.
What cities were you guys registering in?

    Default Steet Legal in WI

I have an 02 crf450r and an 03 KTM 525sx both plated. The key is to have a title from another state. I've registered other CRF's here as well with little problem. Because my KTM vin wasn't on file I had to take it down to the dmv slicks and all, the only thing they wanted to see was the vin to make sure it wasn't stolen. The big problem is that the VIN number isn't in the database if its not a street legal bike sold by a dealer.

I'm getting ready to plate my new sxv 5.5 with only the mso, I'm not sure what to expect.

I don't know why everyone is so surprised, as if when you guy to Best Buy or Circuit City, the salespeople generally know less than the techno geeks about the products being sold. Same thing for the DMV.

At the end of the day the DMV is just trying to do their job. There is too much to know about every single vehicle, and the reality is some are not supposed to be used on the street, yet people try to register these all day long.

If there really is an issue then do something about it. Write your congressman, have them make the changes you need. Otherwise all we do is get frustrated and figure out loopholes which sometimes work and sometimes don't.

That's not true. I've had many a bike (mainly XR600's & KX500's) that i've successfully titled here. I have my buddy title them in Missouri and then transfer title to me. A quick trip to the DMV, and bing/bang/boom.......it's done

God I wish I still lived in Wi. I would love going through the hills with all the trees and everything smells clean. Down here in AZ you could make an outhouse street legal, it's crazy head light and tail light and good to go. Just have to sign at DMV that it is street legal and they just trust you. No inspections!

call baja designs they will give you a # to a dmv i forgot what state its in but just send them your money they will send you a plate and registration with your addres on it if you get pulled over tell them you live in both states and the bike gos back and forth run that plate for a year and then when you get ready to tag it in your state just tell your dmv your bringing it in to the state and it has 8,000 road miles on it that makes it a road bike it even works in cali!
