    Default 2.15x17 front and rear??

    Hello all!
Shannon Here and not just new to the forum but new to the SM world I have 2 very nice XL350Rs 1984/1985 and they both run tight and impressive for 80's 350 4strokes. As it is common knowledge SM rims are very costly. I was wondering if i could lace my front hub with another 2.15(3")x17,..so i have 2 in the same and maybe put like 110/80/17 tire front and 130/80/17 on rear with success and safety? Maybe for a quick fix till i can afford bigger rim widths. Anyone try this?
    Any opinion is appreciated.

I have seen people do that type of thing before, but usually on smaller bikes. I would think it would be okay but clearly not optimum. As long as you don't push too hard on such a skinny rear you should be fine, in my opinion.

A Kawasaki KLR600 or 650 rear rim has a 2.5 width. I'm not sure if the spoke pattern will match up. With a 2.5 rim you can run a 125GP front slick or a 110.

    I ran a 110/70 17 front, on a 17 x 2.25, with no problems at all on a previous F650GS. The KTM950se runs a 140 rear on a 2.15 rim, so you shouldn't have any problem with a 120 or 130.

With that size bike, you should be able to push as hard as you want; I ran the F650 with a 110 front & 130 rear and never felt like I was lacking in grip, could easily keep up with just about anything in the tight twisties. The common 120/160 combination is completely unnecessary for a bike your size & weight.
