    Default New headlight

What do you think about my new trailtech X2 headlight? It is just the halogen 70 watt. It was a pain to get mounted on the WR. I think if I had a KTM it would have been much easier, due to the instructions looked like that was what it was intended for.

Haven't road it at night yet, and it looks like I will have to modify it again with some sort of bracket to raise it up. Definately much brighter than the stock 35 watt. The brights didn't get higher in the air but it did get wider.

    Anyone else using it?

My DRZ was a 55/60 watt bulb stock. You sure yours was a 35w setup? I didn't think that was DOT legal, but I've been wrong before.

Pretty sure that it was 35 watts. Not sure about DOT approved. I think that I have the dual sport kit from Baja Designs. I haven't had my bike inspected so I am not sure that even if I am totally legal. I am pretty sure that this headlight is a 70 watt halogen. Whether or not it is actually putting out what it is supposed to be, I don't know. But it is brighter!

How well did your installation go? Did you have to do any modifications? Pretty sure that the low beam is on the top and high on the botom.

I've got one on my KTM(HID)works great! No, not DOT legal. I've had no issues with the law, been running it since Oct. I ride M-F 60+ each day. When I first mounted it I used the supplied fender post bracket for the bottom to get the light to point on the garage door in the same place as my trucks light. The posts on the KTM fender put it down to low. I have since slotted the mounting holes for the fender to give me adjust ability using the factory fender pins. For you guys using other fenders, try using the supplied bracket w/ heavy duty Velcro. I used this first and it was working great. Also some one used nylon nuts and bolts then drilled through the fender in the correct place to have two pins sticking up, obviously metal bolts would serve the same purpose. That said Lowe's has nylon nuts and bolts. My 2c Trail Tech X2

i have a ktm950 front fender on mine so i couldnt use any of the parts that came with the light.the pins on the light are held by the big hump on the fender and i used the straps for the top.

I just put one on my xr650l too. But i wired in a diode between the hot hi and hot lo so both lights run on HI. Good light so far, kind of a pain in the ass to mount as the octopus of wires behind the dash is huge. Eventually i got it all ziptied back and waterproof(almost).

hte orange looks like a good match. fitting on the Husky was a project. the front fender brace makes it so you cant use any of the mounting stuff. I made a mount out of a giant. zip strip and a solder gun. I still need to adjust it though

    Dudes,
You sure those aren't HID lights ?

good to see the install on the XRLs; I've been holding off for just that reason - rat's nestt of wires. Didn't think they would fit behind the X2 with my XRR and BD kit.

Interesting. So the default setup is one bulb on low and one on high? Seems like it'd be a no-brainer to get them both on for the high setting.

What are you guys using for handlebar switches? Does it come with a high/lo/off switch?

I have a baja designs kit, so that is what I use for a switch. I have it wired so they are separate.

The light, X2, has two lamps. How you or the manufacturer wire the light switch will give you either one at a time or both. Most common on our bikes is a dual filament bulb. When on low the low filament is lit, when on high the low goes off and the high comes on. With my H4 setup I could tell when I ran both filaments at the same time because my heated grips would not be very warm, the reason, the wattage output from these small bikes is not very big. Even still most cars, trucks and bikes only run one filament at a time. The light or any light setup will take what ever power you give it. So if you want both on then wire it that way. The manufactures switches will have to be redone to make both on though. Depending on what bulb/bulbs your running though the result may be a dead battery, melted light housing or other electrics not working. My X2 HID works great wired up as both on when on high but the draw is much lower than say a 55/60 halogen.
