Default another boot thread - i'm torn

Please help me out! i always used to ride in skate shoes but after being in this forum awhile i realize its time to ride smarter. i mostly commute on my sm and hit trails once in a while on the weekend. do i wear a mx boot or a crotch rocket boot? mx boots are huge heavy and huge. yet they do offer the best protection. but i don't want to wear them to the grocery store. crotch rocket boots are much more comfortable to me but is that stupid to wear them on a sm? does anyone else wear them? i want to invest my money wisely in a good pair of boots but just dont know what style. What do most of you wear? Post a pic if you like.

P.S. - i tried on the 50/50 and it felt great but doesn't seem any better than a workboot. still unsure

i really dig the 50/50, wear em all
day without my heel cramping or
    my feet sweating somethin fierce.

I do like the 50/50 boots... they offer ankle protection but arent as bulky as a full on mx boot.

I'd go with the Astars Tech 2 over the 50/50. More protection but still comfy. You can also look at the Axo Slammers, I have a pair.

I used to wear Sidi Vertigo Corsa's I got a smokin deal on, but the were a real pain in the ass to wear all day. Not to mention they don't hold up well walking everywhere in them like a regular touring boot will. They're designed to be used on the bike, not as work shoes.

I run the Alpine stars One-o-one. I Really like them, but they don't offer that much more protection than a regular boot. However none of the low top boots are going to offer any where near the crash protection of a competition boot (MX or road race) because it doesn't go up your shin. If your ankles can move around, they'll be vulnerable in a crash. I went with the one o one'sbecause they have some nice riding specific features. The best one is the shape of the rear ankle, there is a cut out for your achilles tendon. Might not seem like a big deal but repetitive stress to my achilles sidelined me from riding for several weeks and I ended up selling my bike last year because of it.
