    Default Husky SMR 510???

Got a good line on a cheap husky 510, this would be my first tard, I'm crossing over from sporties. I'm looking at buying as a commuter/track day bike, anyone think the Husky isn't good for daily driving? I heard a few objections Let me know what ya think

That's more of a race bike. Great bike but somewhat high strung for daily commuter is the general consensus. Someone that owns one will probably chime in. Check the husky section under manufacturers sub-forum.

I have been riding Japanese sportbikes for several years and just bought an 08' SM510R last week. I don't have many miles or much seat time yet but I would say no on commuting with it. These bikes are fairly high maintenance and if you rack up the miles you will be wrenching alot.

Thanks for the move, guess I could have done some reasearch before posting!!! F-ing newbs

Anyway I decided after reading forums all night last night to go out and just buy it. It seems like opinions vary just like everything else in the world. I don't consider changing oil and checking valves to be high maintenance. I do over 30 track days a year so turning a wrench is fine with me. The dealer is hooking it up with the power-up kit and I'll be picking it up on monday!!! Wish me luck, can't wait to get out on it and see what this junkie thing is all about.

just gear it right for your street riding to keep the r's down and you will minimize the wear and tear. 500 miles of track time puts more wear and tear on the motor than 2000 miles of easy low rpm street cruising.

I've found over the last 2 weeks of street riding that it is very difficult to keep the revs down on the street. The bike just begs to be ridden. If you weigh more than 180, look at getting a heavier rated spring for the rear. Keep a good quantity of oil and filters in the garage along with some K&N air fliter cleaner and do the work yourself. You will save money and learn about your bike in the process.

Plus, you'll be the envy of the neighborhood kids and squids when you BRRRRAAAAAP by them on one wheel while they try to keep up on their stretched 96 SRAD GSXR's. LoL

Well I brought it home and my first impression is "HOLY SHIT"!!!! Other than that I don't have much to say, I'll post an update when I get some saddle time in.

By the way if anyone from Central/South NJ is looking in to a Husky, give Bob from Central Jersey Cycles a call. He is an awesome guy and knows is stuff.

Yeah. I had the SAME reaction! You'll learn throttle control real quick on the 510 SMR... Get your suspension set, buy some bar guards and crash spools for front and rear axles and a muffler slider asap. Enjoy!

From the short ride I took on it, I LOVE IT!!!

I chose to go with the slow approach to break it in so I'm going to be going crazy not being able to ring it's neck a bit.

I can definately see why people talk about losing your clean driving record. I'm gonna get arrested real fast!!!

I rode mine (TE510) yesterday with still snow everywhere here in MN for 10 miles and even limiting it to 1/2 throttle I was still doing wheelies everytime I accelerated, 2nd 3rd and 4th .. WOT is another story
