Interesting... never heard of the pilot power pure. Looks like it'd be good for a motard. Lighter with more grooves for "rain." I read "dirt."

The Pilot Power Pure is replacing the 2CT, that's why there's such a massive discount on them right now.

Sorry if its been asked alot, but i have the factory IRC runner tires on my klx250 sf and was thinking of putting another tire on the back, what are your thought on running a different tire on the front than on the back? Dangerous? Also plan on going from 130-70-17 to 140-70-17 and im looking at the battlax BT003- Good tire???

Obviously I'm way in the past... I just remember buying a set of the original PPs when they first came out. Of course that was for my CBR I had my sophomore year of college...

    Exclamation Well Hell...

Guys - this is my two cents, just IMHO, ok?
Based on close to 30 years of riding, probably 10 years of fitting customers with rubber, and many different types of racing, conditions, terrains, and so on.

Now. Please don't go lowering your tire pressures below recommended unless a temp guage is handy. Tread squirm is a BIG cause of 'unsettled' weirdness in tire feel. Please don't run track treads on the street, unless you are 110% sure of teh conditions - even then you will be wrong. Please match compounds front and rear, until you know FOR SURE what you are getting into. Please run tires on mfg. recommended rim widths if possible.

It took me a while to read thru this thread, and I hope I don't repeat what is here, but I've gone through a lot of tires, though I usually change them out each year.

NBL y'all are going to shred more rears than I did on my RZ500, and my interest goes back to '84 when I put street tires on my '79YZ LMAO. That got me busted.

So - Metzelers are the shiznit. Period. (for me)
I ran a season of Sportsman on Pirelli Scorpions and loved it - bar-scraping stuck, decent cleaning coming out of the dirt, good street wear.
THESE have a cool feel, but break away fast, though are predictable on the street and slide.
Shinko's feel greasy when you push them, but once off they slide well and are cheap fun Friday night rears. I've put a streetbike into 2-wheel drift on Shinkos, scary shit that.
Anything Continental is going to be good for its *intended purpose* - they've been in the game too long to build crap.
Bridgestone tires scare me after I've seen a bunch chunk out a few years back, apparently better now, but bad images.

I hope my fellow 'tards don't think you will warm tires to track temps outside of Death Valley, since on a lap you cool of in the dirt section alone (hint hint) running race weight skins.
I tend to try to fit tires to the individual, not so much the bike or the brand.

I would aim, if you think this way, for 600-class intent, as the carcass of the tires meant for sport touring / adventure are really stiff and have crap feel in general - though tough commuter rubber (gravel, glass, construction, accident debris) city guys know what I mean.

LMK if any of this bothers you, please. And - there's a ton of world-class 600-class supersport rubber to choose from, and most of it will do more than you will ask of it, if it's at the right pressure, on the right rim.

Who makes displacement specific tires?? And most 600SS bikes run a 180mm rear, which isn't going to work unless you ride an Ape 550.

    D00d - seriously?

Tires have a weight rating. 600/700cc sports bikes dont want the same tires as a Gold Wing.

And a NEW 600cc Hypersport wears a 180 maybe, but the older ones don't.

Look HERE for a prime example.

    Hope that helps.

First of all, where is this "weight rating" on your Pirelli link? Those Super Corsas are available in sizes for an SV650 to a 'Busa, all the same model tire. Of course a Goldwing won't take the same tire as a 600SS, they have completely different rim sizes as well as performance requirements. 600SS bikes have taken a 180 tire for at least 10 years, how old are you??

I picked up a set of Maxxis Pressa's recently and the rear is a 160/60 but the front is a 120/80, anybody run this size? I am use to a 120/70, so will I notice much difference?

I have run the regular Pilot power on my dr-z sm and found them to be very sticky while pushing them hard.I loved them! But they also wore out quickly.
Since i am not doing any track days, i figured i would try a new(to me) tire that is supposed to provide good life. Avon makes a tire labeled as a commuter called Roadrider. I got them at a decent price so i figured what the hell. when i have time to really push them in the twisty's ill post up about hot they feel.

    Canadians listen up:

Pete's Superbike in Quebec is ridiculously cheap. You need to create an account to see the tire prices, but for example, I just picked up a set of Distanzias for $304CAD SHIPPED with tax.

I have the same setup on my DRZ sm. Very nice and sticky tires! These are the 1st set of tires that I have scrubbed the entire front tire. The taller profile seems to turn in quicker.

Whew! Just got my husky 610 back, and it has a BT016 on the back. I have been riding a DR-ZSM with dual sport compound distanzias on it. I was thinking how lucky I was and there wasn't much sand on the roads around my house, then I rode the 610 around a bit today and there is a huge difference! The distanzias don't care about the sand/grit on the roads- they grip like crazy anyhow. Not racetrack grip like the bridgestones, but good street grip. Interesting back to back for me. Oh- and the bridgestones don't grip worth a crap in pure dirt! Fine for light trail riding, but trying to go from 60-0 was kinda interesting.

only one option for the front 120/70HR17 but for the back 150/60HR17, 150/70HR17, and 150/70VR17

    I have a drz400sm
    Thanks in advance guys

The 150/60 is the SM compound rear and is the one I'd go for. Used em loads on several different SMs and only have good things to say about em.

The 150/70 is a harder dual sport compound. I had one on the back of my XR650 for a while and it lasted much better than the SM compound but didn't grip as well, especially noticable in the wet.
    - I didn't know they did them in two different speed ratings though. H rated is meant to be good for up to 130mph and V rated for up to 149mph. I would think the V rated one would be an even stronger, stiffer carcass and be even harder to get heat into, so very unlikely to be what you'd want on a DRZ

Never had a problem with the Shinko 005 advanced. Front sticks good after its hot. Most of my riding is late night ripping around Boston. I really don't think the rear tire is that big of a deal! As long as its not made of old Barbie dolls and grabs when its hot I'm good with the 005's. Went though 2 sets last yr only cost $400. Nothing wrong with a cheap price and a goofy name. Thay have a ultra soft track/road I haven't tried. If I get the chance this yr to ride on them I'll give a run down on them. Maybe get it on the track.

You've found your tire then- the BT016 I had on the SM610 had great grip in the sweepers but had a nice controllable slide when you wanted it to.

ive been shopping for a tire for my wr250x and it came with a bt090 on the rear in a 140. there doesnt seem to be room for a 150 so that hinders tire selection severely. also i read on the bt090 that it was designed specifically for the wrx and the 690SMC. it seemed to work well but its the first tire so i have nothing to compare it to. has anyone tried to fit a 150 on the bike? or the balleax bt090 on any other bikes?

i replaced my dunlop qualifiers with a set of power pures. i noticed the width was way different. they are both 160/60/17s but the pures are a good 5/8-3/4" narrower. the DQs had chain marks on them and were 1/16" from the swingarm on the other side, and the pures had 3/8" on both sides. something to note if your buying pures. i haven't got to put any miles on them yet, but i can't wait.
