I just bought a 2003 ktm 625 sxc with 1642 miles on it. It has the supermoto wheels on it and I got the oem stock wheels too. I just need to finish it up. Is the Baja Designs I good kit to put on for the hi/low head, binkers ect. Can anyone help with the preformance parts, Like full exhaust system ect ( bolt ons ). Does anyone make big bore kits. One more thing has anyone ever taking the crank out and balance it, To stop some of the vibration. Thanks for any help.. New to the supermoto and to KTM..
the baja kit is OK, but you can do better (and usually cheaper) sourcing your own parts. and most of that stuff is cross-compatible from other KTMS as well as other brands/models with some tinkering.
as far as performance, there is a list in the stickies, but to sum it up, make sure the throttle stop is modded, get a JD jet kit, and choose slip-on/full system of your preference (and for your model most pre-05 620/640 +ADV model's exhaust will work and will likely need to be what you search for as they're pretty much the same, but nomenclature is less uncommon)
as far as big bores and cams, there's a few recent threads on that a couple pages back. general consensus is how much money do you want to throw at it for not so cost-effective gains?
and as far as vibes, a few things can be done, (besides crank balancing which is IMO very un-cost effective) and nothing is a cure all. easy stuff to do is to re torque your engine bolts, check/adjust the valves, fill your bar with BB's, get the comfort seat and rubber foot peg inserts, and if you're a more mechanically inclined, (and are hardcore enough for a kick-only bike) have a look at this flywheel (which any competent machinist should have no problem making) http://www.altmann.haan.de/ktm_lc4_flywheel/
Thanks, The throttle stop mod has been done. I'm going to start to look for some pipes. I think i'm just going to ride it and see if I like the supermoto thing, I'm come off the big sportbikes ( Hayabusa/zx14 ).
albeit a more squishy, lighter, and lower powered than what you're used to.....and much better "streetbike" than most converted MX bikes, "true" sumos....
dialing it in for yourself is pretty easy and good fun, and making it lighter is (mostly) an easy cost effective way to make it "feel" faster, and fortunately there's a decent amount of stuff to be removed depending what all you're willing to do without....and fancier lighter stuff to be added.
I got to take it out today for a little while . It is alot of fun on the back roads. I'm going to have to ride it more to get use to it.. Would you go with a full system on it. I like the akrapovic but it cost alot of money.
