    Default Best 17" Fireroad tires?

I've got a '98 Husaberg FE600E supermoto. The bike came with Michelin Pilot motard race tires 16/63/17 rear 12/60/17 front. Absolutely a blast on pavement, but I can bust my ass just looking at dirt/gravel/grass. I want something that I can explore gravel/dirt fireroads. No mud no big loose hills. Just something that is controlable off the pavement but still grips on road. Oh also cheap. thought about even grooving some cheap (thinking shinko 005) street tires. any thoughts? How about a Sticky tire guide? So lazy asses like me maybe won't post as often, Sorry.

Distanza's seem well liked for light off road.
I would slap anyone I know that bought a Shinko tire FWIW.
    Otherwise, do a search yo....!

i know distanzias are not cheap, but remember that you will get some good mileage out of them. you might find a tire that's much cheaper, but will not last as long and or give you as good performance

I have a cheap dirtbike, I want to ride down the highway and be about to explore dirt "roads" without picking gravel out of my arms LOL! I don't want a rain tire that won't hold up to the very sharp rocks we have here in SW MO, and I don't want an enduro tire that is so hard that I can't spank sport bikes (we have very curvy roads here). so does that still narrow it down to Distanzias? what about MT60 pirellis?

distanzia all the way man... great handling on the pavement. still gets around in the rough... i live on a freakin island and i can tear it up in the sand dunes and still go out and spank the sport bikes... best all around tire IMO

Ok decided to go with the distanzia's but not sure what size on the rear. I believe my rear wheel is 5" wide but not 100% sure. currently have a 16/63/17 pilot and the chain rubs tire slightly. thinking 150/70 or 150/60. the rake front to rear is a little more than i like and installing the 120/70 verses the 120/60 front will help but I think I should still stick with the 150/60 rear to help also. I have to put alot of sag in the rear to keep it from head shaking terribly and it pushes me into the front of the seat pretty badly. so final thoughts?

Maybe you can recheck/reconfirm to be sure and let us know?

Typical supermoto tire sizes are 120/70/17 front and depending on your rear rim size 150/60/17 or 160/60/17 rear.

If your rear rim spec is 4.25x17 then it typically uses the 150/60/17 tire size. If your rear rim spec is 4.5x17 or 5.0x17 then it typically uses the the 160/60/17 tire size.

Just installed 16t husky sprockets that i ground a little off 1 side and installed a spacer on the other side. also installed 150/60/17 rear and 120/70/17 front distanzia's with 42 tooth rear sprocket on my FE600 supermoto and OH MY GOD what a difference, I love it! engine isn't about to blow it's guts out down straights, it wheelies like crazy, sticks like glue and 80 MPH head shake is gone. thanks to everyone for advice.
