Default XT500 supermoto anyone? (Phase 3)

    Hi everyone.
I restore classic bikes and build one off (Twin shock) Supermoto's to which I'm probally better known for.
So i thought I'd drop in and share some pictures of my latest creation (Phase 3)to see what you guys think?
You need to study the pictures real close to appreciate the amount of work what went into making this bike.
Virtually part been modified, most changes were deliberately hidden so to retain the bikes original XT looks.
I make all my own parts and turn them out in roughly 8 - 10 weeks.
The yellow one below started off from a stock XT500 bought of EBay, and 8 weeks in my workshop this is what become of it.
Possibly not everyone's cuppa tea, but i have a passion for twinshocks and prove to be an investment once done.
I build the engines to produce about 50BHP @ rear wheel, so there great fun to ride and msot able to keep up with most modern bikes.
    Enjoy the ride.
    Dave (Hinckley/ Leicestershire)

Oh my god, they're beautiful. Truly works of art. I wish we could buy SM's like this brand new, i would rather have one of these retro ones than a DRZ or something common that everyone and their dogs own. Do you sell these, I would love one!

    Beautiful bike!

Pictures of your phase1 build have been drooled over on this site for a long time. If you search for xt500 you'll see a lot of results with your bike.

This is the picture that we've been drooling over.

Hi guys and thanks for the comments.
Most think I'm a nutter and ask me why i do this to a classic bike?
But i think there real sweat when done, as because there real old i can build them without having to worry about the regulations.
I'd love to show them off at some kind of show, but unable to find one that caters for this kind of thing?
I've tried showing them at classic bike shows, but all the guys with the shiny machines frown at me.
Can anyone recommend what kind of show or event people appreciate why i do?
I guess you could call them Custom bikes, but I'd look a right idiot putting them next to a bunch of Harleys!
    Thx Dave

I'm speechless - I love the twin shocker sumos as well. Just love every bit of custom detail work there. Dave, it's a mixed up world out there - this is true beauty and a work of art. Seems all the racer/motocross sceen just likes stickers and flashy logos and the harley / cruiser sceen is just worried about chrome and black leather. Supermotos are about purpose, we are a rare breed. Cheers

Once I've done what i need to do, i normally sell them on to who ever wishes to buy them.
Bearing in mind I've only just finished building this one, i plan to do a couple of magazine features with this one first before considering selling it.
Most people think I'm crazy, the wife surely does!!
But I'm just your average kind of guy, trying to scrap a living from a small wooden shed in my rear garden.
Often spending all my saving and selling items on Ebay to raise funds to carry on.
It might sound a bit obsessive, but i know theres a market for selling the bikes i build.
I guess I'm hoping that one day the right opportunity turns up and I'll finally get paid for do what i enjoy.
And the rich guy gets even richer for watching me graft!
Sorry about the life story guys, just having a bad day!
    Thx Dave.

I love 2x shock bikes, I love some of the new "Street Trackers" that are popping up all over. Your bikes fit that mold perfectly.

Didn't know you've got some new phases in line, Dave. Greetings from Germany. The parts I bought from you didnt bring me luck so far, and unfortunately you are not answering my mails.
Anyway, have a great day. I always admired your work. Too bad we didn't find a way to get busy together.

    Hi guys.
I'm so happy to like my work.
Strange because most deem the bikes i build (Automotive Art), which is kinda cool but sadly overlooks the techincal work.
Because i spend huge amounts of time making them ride as good as they look.
Its kind of hard to explain, but the yellow featured here is like a jigsaw puzzle.
Because most of my hard work is covered up and every part as a story to tell.
My latest yellow moto rides very well, possibly better than i expected.
A combination of lightness and engine work as made it very entertaining to ride, resulting in something that would be quite able to keep up with most modern moto's
The sound effect the exhaust makes is outstanding, very deep and pleasantly loud.
Sorry ak5609 if i failed to respond to your email, might have been lost in my email spam program.
P:S I'm always looking to keep busy, never enough work here!!!
    Thx Dave.

    Hi Alex.
Thanks for dedicated link on your website, its real nice to know your a fellow thumper fan and you kindly exhibit my bikes.
Eventually after much thought, i finally decided to proceed building XT500 Supermoto's.
This might sound strange! But I've still never worked out if I'm ever going to achieve anything building custom bikes?
But know I'll continue building them at a speed that my personal funds permit.
Sad thing about all this! I usually end up have to sell them to fund my next project.
Alex I've noticed you don't have many pictures of the (Phase 2)?
Here's a link to a friends website who as some pictures of it if you need any more.
    http://www.oldgitsuk.dsl.pipex.com/Brutal.htm
Alex it's so nice to hear from you again, i do hope business is good for you in Germany & still treating you kind.
P:S I've a little deal going through with Kedo.DE, so might be flying over there soon? (Nothing to do with the bikes, just parts)
    Thx Dave

Those are some of the sexiest Sumo's I have ever seen before! Unfreakingbelievable!!! Those look like they rolled out of the factory like that! Damn, makes me want to sell my DRZ and get one of those, just the cool factor alone.

You really should be proud of yourself, and your work. Awesome job man!

    AWESOME!

I built a cafe racer with a "barn find" 73 honda cb350 last winter and have gotten interested in building a supermoto. I think I'd go the single shock rear route but I can totally appreciate all the work you put into it. excellent job. heres a pic of my cafe racer. . . which might be for sale soon to fund a supermoto project

I may use my DR350 dual sport to build a lightened up almost cafe style supermoto similar to Roland Sands builds but i do need a dualsport for the woods too . . .

Again, awesome xt keep at it, you're good

Billy! You made it....another corrupted soul courtesy of yours truly. Find a TT, XT, or SR frame, and i have a complete low mileage SR500 motor that I'll sell you cheap. Then when you’re done building the supermoto, we can chat about a trade for my XR
