good move. I just steal all of Coffee's data from TT. they have a pretty good list for husky's compiled
The 450 and 510 and becoming more popular and I think we all see the same questions being brought up. I also think if we have a Jetting Database this will help tremendously
I will post my Jetting later tonight.
Jetting should be recorded the same way by every SM junkie including Year,Alt, Mods, mj, pj, lj, air screw, and etc.
This way we can all help each other get the most out of our machines.
Let me know what you all think and maybe the MOD can get a sticky for us here
Thanks
Richie

The main jet on the last bike is way too big. Try something near 180.
04 510
-sea level (below at times when I run it at Richmond....) to maybe 400 feet so far.
-Completely stock setup for 04. That means competition flow through style muffler and no emmisions to need removing. The setup is dead stock other than the jetting.
-Bumped the main jet to a 190 and running the rest stock. It could likely use a lift of one slot on the needle since a few traces of lean shows up around idle and low throttle settings at lower RPM's like when cruising out to the track area. On the track it pulls strongly at all RPMs I'm using and doesn't show signs of any lean transition issues so I haven't bothered with fixing the lean issue when in the pits.
I tried the 180 and 185 and the bike was definetly running lean up top. Tested using the "roll off slightly from WFO and see what it does" method of looking for a little surge ahead to signify running a hair lean. The 190 seems rock solid for me.
B for Bruce
I'm a born again two wheeler. 7 bicycles, 4 operational motorcycles and two basket cases in need of love.
I'm on par with the last guy, the rest of you make me feel good. Since my jetting is richer than all other 450's and some 510's! I have an '05 450 and when stock was running:
@ 800ft elevation in summer (like 90F)
185 main
50 pilot
Needle - one clip above middle (I move this when it's colder)
Air screw (or fuel, whatever) 1 3/4 turns out
I put a pro-circuit muffler and K&N intake on and now run:
185 main
50 pilot
Needle - one clip below middle (I move this when it's colder)
Air screw (or fuel, whatever) 1 1/4 turns out
This came with much pain, trial-and-error, and looking at spark plugs religiously. She is runnin like a dream. At one point I was up to a 55 pilot, but got some popping on decel, that was obviously too big. Also, if I go just one clip leaner on the needle, I start to get grey/white-ish plugs. So, I'm confident it's perfect for my bike. Did I mention she starts first or second kick every time (Except when hot of course!!!), usually without the choke! Maybe my ports just flow better than you lean guys (lucky me).
06 450 --- ~70 degrees @ sea level
thick o ring
full FBF exhaust
Sealed Exhaust
jd kit
180 main
45 pilot
Needle Red
clip 5th position
1.25 to 1.5 turns out
stillllll snap crackle pops on decel....
i have trouble believe that its not possible to get it to run w/o any pops on decel. I've tried using both a 175 and 185 main, neither with any success. would messing around with the pilot help
Mine pops on decel too (from high rpm usually not but always on low rpm). I don't know my jetting since the bike runs fine, starts fine and doesn't do anything funny when riding it. There's one problem though, I'm getting this weird studder at around 3800-4300rpm on like 1/8 throttle riding at constant speed. The higher the gear, the worse the studder is. Is there any way I can cure this? It is very annoying as I only can ride at certain constant speeds and in city traffic that's not very convenient. The studder 'stops' when I add a little throttle and the bike starts accelerating a bit. Above 4500rpm I never get that. Also when it studders I feel that the bike is vibrating more than usual and I can hear the drive chain rattle.
you guys crack me up, you have no clue about jetting
And you're being very helpful. I think I know enough about jetting as I've worked with 2-strokes a lot but what I'm really asking here is could that studder be caused by jetting issues (fuel screw, needle clip position?) or is it just because the bike isn't meant to be ridden at that rpm..?
2007 Husqvarna SMR510
stock gutted exhaust, stock filter, smog stuff removed
JD jet kit... 45 pilot, 180 main, 70 leak jet, thick o-ring, 5th clip JD red needle.
Air/fuel screw 1 3/4 turns out.
Live in between Sacramento and San Francisco (vacaville)... temps in the high 60's to low 90's.... 100-400 feet above sea level. Relatively dry.. 45-60% humidity.
Bike seems to run fine but does pop quite a bit under decel from 5-8k to close throttle positions. Also... from idle to whacking it open will bog down sometimes and even pop/then die. Bike idles fine at 1800-1950 rpm's, but at the recommended settings of 1700-1800 rpms's... it'll die when whacked open.
I've done lots of searching on here and TT on jetting and even made an excel spreadsheet on it and trying to dial it in perfectly.
So far.... I've changed out the pilot to a 42 and turned the a/f screw to 1 1/2 turns out and the popping/dying at idle to whack is for the most part gone. However, I've not addressed the backfiring issues at the higher rpm range.
Should I move the needle to the 6th position or maybe go with a 175 main? I'm hesitant to try anything else because I don't want to lean out the bike too much and have it running too hot/lean and start having heating/burning up problems.
Any suggestions here... don't think I left out anything.
read this flow chart
each item overlaps the other
so basically there four areas you need to get right to have your bike run the best
accel pump mods and changing pump cover affects throttle right off idle
taper of needle and clip in middle and main jet is mostly all top end full throttle
thats the basics
and what im reading here is you guys are trying to fix to many problems at once, make one change at a time , if not you will pull your hair out
and read these

I have stock exhaust, emissions shit removed on mine. The previous owner installed a JD Jet kit. It runs strong but pops on decel. Normal, or should I make changes to the setup? I am a noob to carbs... so don't get too hissy when responding to this.

awesome throttle response, pops and bangs on decel (but no-one to tell me if there are flames)
stock gearing and the front lifts in third without clutch
I'm off racing this weekend so I'll see how it goes flat out on a long street circuit then
So is the popping on decel normal with a jet kit?

Hi guys, new to this forum.. I recently bought a TE510-04 wich is converted to a sumo bike. One of the past owners switched the 510 engine to a 450 from a smr-05 because of som valve breakdown.. Now to my question, the bike pops quite a lot at decel, and I think it runs a bit lean on top rpm's because the power isn't fully there.. Jetting on the bike:
Main: 175
Pilot: 37,5
Needle: (Stock), one clip above middle
F/A screw: 1, 3/4 turns
Smartest things for me to do to address my problems?
// Thomas, Sweden
Well I have been doing alot of jetting lately with a wideband. If your jetted close and your still getting popping on decel. Go down one size on the slow air jet. That is located on the intake side in the bell. There are two jets there. The slow air jet and main aur jet. The slow is is outboard one. The same thing apples with the main air jet. Right now I'm at a 182 on the main. I'm going to a 185. But ut will still be a tad lean. If I go 188 it will be too rich. So I will go 185 and drop my main air jet one size.

I bought the 2010 SM510R already derestricted to full power, but the exhausts and everything else are still stock.
Can this cause problems due to pressure build up and overheating?
Steve
As usual I have been tuning. My settings are
Obdvq clip 4.5
42
182
Fuel screw all the way in.
Paj 7/8 out about a 90
60 leak
Ap set at 2.75mm
Now a little info. If you have a spare fuel screw washer you can use it to shim the clip on your needle for half clip positions.
Also if your running an open exhaust and you are jetted properly you will get popping on decel. I explain this earlier in this thread.
It takes years to understand jetting and to be able feel what's going on and what changes that need to be made.

My buddy picked up a 05 530 and as usual my garage is a husky hangout. I have spent the last week going through it. The carb was a mess missing parts ect, however the silver lining... It had a Jd red in there. Testing back to back the red and a handful of other needles the red was by far the best. Yes I'll be ordering one for my 530. Now my buddy is letting me borrow his LC-1 so we will see the actual A/F ratio soon.
Current setting
Red 5th
42 pilot
182 main
52 leak
AP set at 2.75mm
This is a really great setup guys

For those with questions about chain adjustment on the 450/510... this sticker was on the swingarm of my 2010 SMR510. To me anyway, it reads that you put tension on the chain to make the lower section of the chain fully taut. Then, you take your measurement 145mm from the swingarm pivot axis. At 145mm from the swingarm pivot axis, the upper chain section should have 30mm of up-down movement.

Hello Folks
I recently bought a 2008 SMR 450 and I love it, but it is a pain to ride. Previously I have also owned a KLX250 and a Honda Twister, I have also ridden bigger bikes (versys, GS) and none of these bikes have the issues I have with my SMR. The previous owner says this is "normal" for a 450 supermoto, but hell no this canīt be normal for any bike...
It it stutters a LOT when going at less than 3500-4000rpm; it stalls when on gear and not moving, even with the clutch it, so I cannot wait for a red light or a stop sign in 1st gear, it will stall, I have to wait in neutral and sometimes as soon as I change to 1st, it will stall; it also pops when decelerating and itīs also a PAIN to make it start.
I have investigated a lot in forums like this and on the Internet and it seems that a jetting kit will help with these issues; Iīm searching for opinions from users of jetting kits; do you believe a kit will help with problems like these? If so, do you have just the set of needles or the "commander computers"? If anyone has had these problems before, and solved them with a jetting kit, what exact kit did you get?
I will appreciate a lot all your opinions and help!
Thanks,
Manuel
