For the same reason Honda doesn't make an XR450.

    you mean RMZ450 SM...
i think is time for update for the old DRZ so you might see a faster, lighter version for 07

they would have to do a 3 month warranty on it if they did

I was hoping they would do a drz400sm/s as in sell a bike with both sets of rims like some other super moto manufacturers

Like KTM does on a few of their models......that's what I would like to see as well.

or at least make the SM with that in mind. They make it a huge PITA to reverse-engineer for the dirt

a lot of euro manufacturers do it too. I know that CCM, KTM and think husqavarna does it too. Suzuki's cost for rims can't be that bad. I thought they could do it for $6.5k or something like that

Well I figure.. if you install a big bore kit on the DRZ400 to make it a 450... it's possible. I do understand the question, though. I've thought about it myself. Why didn't Suzuki Just do that in the first place?

Most likely a business decision. An RMZ 450 SM or some such thing would be easy 7K especially after taxes. That's real pricey, and the market is too limited. The DRZ 400 SM is definately a test bike for motard interest in the US. And they scored big with it. All the press loves it. I bet Suzuki thought they were going out on a limb charging( Gasp! )$6200 for a 400. Maybe when they see that 80% of us who bought one imediately put more horsepower into it, they might say "OK these guys WILL pay 7K for an RMZ 450 SM."

Of course there is a world of difference between the street-ability of a DRZ compared to a RMZ, in terms of reliability. Best bet is that they take the same approach as they have with the whatsitcalled 450 quad they released a while back. Better yet they could ditch the lame cv carb, extra chunky base gasked and mild cams

In some places in Asia there are size restrictions. Anything over 400cc needs a different type of license or something. I have heard some people talk about it on TT.

You can have a DRZ450. Set you back an extra $1k or so. $2k to do it right with a carb and exhaust.

$10k if you want to replicate my bike.

I'd love to see a lighter version of the SM. I wonder how much weight it'd drop with an aluminum main frame.
    cheers!

It's from 17pouces.net and it's in Europe. It's not photoshop they have all kind of MX bikes converted directly from the dealer over there.

Well here is another good reason they don't make a DRZ450 stock....

This way I am one of very few people to have such a beast. If everyone had one my DRZ450 wouldn't be anything special.

Its a sleeper sort of. Its a DRZ but it ain't anything close to a factory SM. Yesterday I had a guy ask me at the gas station..... "is your bike street legal?" I replied "barely". He then asked "can I take a picture of your bike?".... I replied "sure".

I agree totally. The dealer that I am picking up my DRZ400SM from tomorrow is offering to sell me a "power-up kit". No word on price, what it contains, or if it will void my warranty. All I know is that it is a "450 kit", and that the dealer will install it for free.

I will ask about it tomorrow, after I complete my interview to work there. I want to work there soooo badly.

Wish me luck on the bike and the job interview guys!

i've been getting the "is that street legal?" question as well... not so much since i put mirrors on though..

a 450 kit in the DRZ is that way to go....

Got the 400SM today, and I am impressed.

I am totally pissed I have no 6th gear or tach! For $6200 it SHOULD have a 6th gear and tach, damnit!

But the bike is great, i have less than 25 miles on it, and i am adjusting to the bolt-upright riding style. this bike feels very high and light. Lightyears ahead of the 250R Ninja I just got off of.

Let's hope this baby does not foul it's plug every few months like my FORMER(!) 2006 Ninja.

I am...buckets of torque compared to the 250R.

I have gotten used to the rock hard seat and upright riding position...feels like nothing else!!!

On the way home from work tonight, i dusted some joker on his Hardly. Made me laugh.

    Go Suzuki!
