Default Labor Day 2012 Weekend ride in the OZARKS! Come One Come ALL

Its that time we schedule and book the labor day ride. This will be the third year for this travel ride for the DFW SUMO Rollcall group. Year 1, Talamena Senice Dr, Year 2, Eureka Springs, This year looking to stay in Jasper AR. Hotel I found is 50.00 + tax for 2 double beds. 4 in a room will be 60.00 . This year instead of running 80 miles to reach something that a sumo is designed for thought we stay closer to the good stuff. Desired roads this year are Hwy123 and hwy103. Lets gets this started and try and reserve some rooms early as its a huge weekend for bikes and travelers, but these roads are well off the normal baggers list of roads to ride. Fresh brakes and rubber will be a must. Arrive Saturday and check in Sept 1st. Ride All day Sunday, and Some or all day Monday pending everyone's desire to stay.

Here is a poor quality video of Hwy123 north where the good stuff is at.. Never mind theGardens over shoot of the corner.

All right you mutts, the man spoke up, planed this for us and all we have to do is make a call to reserve a room? Time to at least get the hands up as to intent. I AM IN!

For those of you that have never done this ride, get on the bus. This is as epic and beautiful as anything I have seen, and I just got back from the Dragon not long ago. The Dragon is greener, more and sharper elevation changes, and infinitely older. But this is as good as you will get this side of the Mississippi short of California and south of Canada. Count 1 for the Old Dog. I will look around for a day or two, see if there is anything more accommodating for those pampered and spoiled scoots. (damn girley bikes) .

Well that pretty well settles it! I'm in even if it cost me a marriage, a child, a job, and my soul.

None of which I have in the first place!

Cool, glad to have a local/native on board. That local knowledge can't be beat and that's first hand from going to the "Dragon "this year. The local boys took us on some roads that were as good as if not better than Deals Gap, i.e. no traffic or leo's.

I got booked! I and Mr OTPipe will be in town friday night and be staying through the morning tuesday.

Next question, I was thinking about doing a beans and franks night. I got a little BBq grill and I make some damned good baked beans. Ask OTPipe, we made a couple of meals off them when we went to the dragon. Any body in for that? I will see if I can clear it with the Mgmt at the hotel. All I need is a head count and you guys tell me the night. Cheap eating and good times swaping lies about the ride.

Hey Wudi, just curious, how far away from the hotel everyone's staying at are you? Every time I see that picture on their website I come up with another species of bug or some new rash that I'd really like to avoid. So coming down with a tent doesn't sound like a bad idea at all. Plus gas to get there and back plus play around for a couple days will only come out to around $20 for me. Add food to that and I'm still only looking at a few bucks. The hotel would probably double that for me and I am first and foremost, a miser.

OK so that's 6 confirmed from dallas/ft worth. And a few maybes. Thegarden, fire guy, and me in one truck and room. You, otpipe, and mthrop in another load and room. Who else is confirmed with reservations or camping at wudi's? Or is local enough to not need accommodations?

    Early roll call!

This worries me! I've seen videos of you guys riding together!!! I can sense some strange bromance from the whole thing, and I know those rooms only have 2 beds!!!!

So you DFW guys are all trucking your bikes over here huh?

Anyone here man enough to actually ride from DFW to here? And I'm not trying to be a jerk here, I mean it. It takes some major man parts to ride around 300 miles on the freeway while on a sumo.

There's several of us that have done that kind of mileage. I'm past trying to prove myself, it's A/C and bromances for me.

I am with Crash on this one. Besides, OTPipe and Mthorpe73, while I am sure are reasonable representations of the male version of our species, they are just not quite cute enough....

    Wudi,

I chose jasper for central location to several options. plus the hotel is 50 bucks a night during a holiday weekend. Camping is cool and I sure appreciate the hospitality, but I need power when I sleep for a c-pap or no one is sleeping and leeland well he is just old . You got some action north of the area I am ALL EARS.. I fell in love with 123 and that one section of 103 last year and just had to come back this year. Like the OP says I am working this as a annual event for the DFW crew and EVERYONE is welcome. I posted this out to the surrounding states, anything I could find within 400 miles. Some of the Tulsa guys prefer to camp, some of us prefer the rooms. I don't really give a damn who likes what I just want to ride with as many Motards as possible and have a bad A$$ time doing it. New People, new rides, and switch backs, it's my kind of vacation

I soooo hope that my KLX is finished and properly broke in for this! Of course, getting off work on a Saturday isn't going to happen. I'll see about riding down Saturday after work, staying Sunday and Monday. Already did the Ozarks once this year on the ER6. Just wasn't the same.

Man, this would be great!!!! I'll see if Dodgerider is able to come along with his KTM.

Anyone come up with a rough head count yet?

I know we've got at least 6 coming from DFW.
Wudi and his buddies, so that's like 1. That's what 8 of them Wudi?
I'm coming down, and I think another guy from my area is coming down.
    Two "probables" from Joplin.
LaurieJennifer if she's lucky, along with her guy on the KTM.
    One maybe from Springfield.

So that's 21 riders right there. Anyone I'm overlooking? Anyone who hasn't chimed in yet?

That's a pretty good number right there! And a professional video/ photo person makes the whole deal even sweater!

Street riders huh? Well it is what it is I suppose. It's hind of hard to feel cool doing your low speed 1st and second gear wheelies when there's some guys on rice rockets doing 100mph power wheelies. Even more so when your bike can't even do 100mph.

I just hope the group doesn't decide not to do some crazy hooligan stuff out of consideration for the street bikes.

That aside handrolld do you have any kind of rough schedule in mind? What times rides are going to start each day, things like that.

    @crazyapples.
All are welcome. If the sporties show up and roll thats cool. So they want to run way out front over 100mph who cares. When it comes to the tight stuff they got no chance.

Goals for the event. Everyone has fun and makes it home in one peice. Stay within your boundries and make new friends. Hooligan action welcomed but not required.

    Schedule??
I would like to roll out of Jasper by 9:30am. Sunday and head east to Hwy123 and head south out of Mt Judea to well before Hwy7. Run this till around lunch time / when we call for lunch. With the group size and pictures and video stuff we should be able to have fun for a while in this section.

After lunch was thinking we should head over to Hwy103 . Afternoon sun means this stretch will be out of direct sunlight. More hooligan action on some really tight sections means more video and photo ops. Plus these turns are wider than Hwy123. ( still really tight turns but like 3 lanes wide in spots.) This road does run next to rock face so it should be intersting video .

Still group photo I really want is infront of signs like this one at the base of hwy103. There are 2 on Hwy123 and several others spread out over the region.

Sounds good. Thanks for putting that up. It's looking like I might just ride down and join you guys for all of Sunday then head on back. Not what I'd like to do but looks like it's all I can manage.

Good picture! Not sure how well that will work with +20 Sumos clustered in front of it though? Where did you snap that one? Out by Eureka?

And video is great but in snapping a pic of some good lean with your head a few inches away from the rock face would be pretty neat!

every body enjoys their knees in the breeze in they own way... referencing as rice rockets is.... un needed... i ride and love both, sumo and street. besides the street riders i invite out will mostly be coming out to watch the show.... and are all excited... and you cant like crazy... second gear power wheelies at a 100 are pretty awesome. and 123 is a piece of beauty, the lower switch back will be and is no fun on the big bikes, but the upper rd is street bike amazing!!! this will be a amazing weekend, and cant wait to see the hooliganism, sure everyone will get along just fine lol
