Default DRZ400SM List of MUST DO modifications and "FIXES"

This seems like a good idea to me; Start a list of "MUST DO" mods or "fixes" for the DRZ400. I am a new owner and I have spent hours searching through all the threads for the most common or "must do" mods for the DRZ400SM. Hopefully this list will help future owners or current owners that haven't come across the information.

List of MUST DO mods or FIXES for the DRZ400:
    001. Counter Shaft Sprocket "Loctite Fix" http://www.thumpertalk.com/forum/arc.../t-625998.html
    002. The 3X3 Mod + Jet Kit http://www.thumpertalk.com/forum/arc.../t-378193.html
    003. Oil changes at 1500 miles (not 3000 miles as I always do) http://www.thumpertalk.com/forum/arc.../t-812702.html
Thumpertalk.com oil change walk through http://www.thumpertalk.com/forum/arc.../t-665513.html

Thanks for the link (another one I didn't know about) and I added it to the list (004).

The 3x3 mod is a bad thing if you don't re jet the bike. It'll make the already lean mixture even more lean, so it's always 3x3 + jet kit...

Do you have a link to procedures for MCCT (what is MCCT?) and the primary nut fix?

manual cam chain tensioner, as the stock automatic one puts a lot of stress on the cam chain and pre maturly wears it out. and the primary nut is a nut on the end of the right side of the crank shaft

    Here's a video for installation.

When I did mine I was able to do it without removing the exhaust or the black vapour reclamation thing.

Probably going to get slagged for this, but everything you've mentioned above, is in the FAQ'S at this site.
    http://www.thumpertalk.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=397

And the drzparts.com references most likely have been taken from the above site as well.

The MCCT youtube movie quoted above is not the most recommended way of doing that fix, albeit prolly the most common way. Best to take valve cover off and establish TDC. Again, everything is in the FAQ'S.

hope i didnt break any forum rules.

    +1
I was about to post the same thing. The TT DRZ FAQ is a comprehensive reference.

Thanks for the additional info on the MCCT fix "Best to take valve cover off and establish TDC."
I am sure with enough time and plenty of searching we can all find all the articles that we would ever need, but I thought it would be a good idea to make a list of all the mods and fixes in one single page. If you stick around you might end up reading an article you haven't read in the FAQ's.

Doing hours of research as you have done, above and beyond all the posted FAQ's, will pay off when you do the fixes. I've done most of them along with some of the other small issues and the extra research will really help you with things "not to do."
    But,
I dont know if you have done this or not yet. Look at the 3 pages in the link I posted. Along with all the extra research you already did, you will have have everything done before long.
Putting it all together in this forum would probably be a good idea as well if it hasnt been done yet.

Sorry for all the jibberish, been up all night with a screaming baby. Ill leave this thread and let you do your thing.

I've had TWO nuts/countershafts crack off on me. Second one landed me overnight in the hospital. lesson learned: USE THE STOCK RUBBERIZED CS SPROCKETS! the other one vibe until they end up breaking the nut off.

original fix which has worked for a year now: http://socalsupermoto.com/blog/2011/...ntershaft-fix/

Figured I would bump this thread instead of starting a new one. Do you guys recommend all of these "fixes" on the '13 DRZ as well? I just stumbled upon it and now it's got me nervous...

Countershaft sprocket locktite fix is mandatory. Research the others on the thumpertalk DRZ400 FAQ and decide whether or not you want to do them.
