This is a thread to summarize the mods I've made to my '08 WR250X. The details are all in other threads, I'm just posting a list of links here as a summary.

If you've got an opinion on this bike, post it up.

Oh, I just remembered another thing that I think could use attention. That kickstand is steel and looks pretty heavy. I'm thinking something in alloy would help balance out a lighter muffler.

Hmmm. I hadn't noticed those mirrors before. How well do they work?

I don't like the tall style, but need them for the street. Not only do they ruin the lines, but they stand out in the way. (I've already broken one  )

Thanks Pep. Headlight's the last major piece of the puzzle. The rest from here will be just cleanup stuff, couple upgrades. Well ok, I might still take off the rear fender and back half of the subframe. And maybe change blue to black... But yeah, it's pretty much how I want it now.

Zed - mirrors work fine. Better than stock for me. View looks under the arms, right past my hips and to the outside. With stock I had to move my arms to see anything. I'm sure it's a better view on the bar ends, but I like them inboard. (I stole this mount position idea from somebody else around here... forgot who.) It's also quite a ways to move your eyes down, but I'm used to it now.

I ran it for a while with the back plastic completely off, but the plastic really helps keep water off my back in the rain (commuting). I'm still thinking about it though. If I finally decide to keep the rear plastic on there, I will trim off those sideburn tabs at least.

There's a funny gap between the seat edge and the subframe, but I think I'd rather take that up with the seat -- attach a strip to fill the gap and then re-cover the seat over the strip.

could you somehow put the radiator in the middle? so if your looking straight on with the bike it would be between the forks?
Man, I would sure like to, but there's not enough clearance behind the front wheel (at full shock travel) unless I put it way down low, and then it'd have too many stones kicked into it.

Yeah, you're right. I've been carrying it 'cuz I was moving so many things around and wanted to be able to tighten things up if needed, or whatever. (My commute's about 20 miles). No problems though, so yeah, I'm due to cut the tabs off and just leave it home.

Makes me nervous to not have some tools with me. All those years with my old shovel, I guess. Haha! That toolkit got used...constantly! Especially back when it still had points. Sheesh...

Here it is. Completely different experience, that was:

Uh-oh, showing my Harley-dude roots! Here comes the ban hammer... :headshake

I hear you about carrying the tools Dave. I took my toolkit off because I wanted to decrease the weight, but if I go farther than my commute I definitely have tools.

The comment on the center radiator is interesting. That would definitely change the look of the bike.

Thanks.

Most people don't have a clue of course, even about SM's in general... But it's easy to tell which cagers know bikes. They get this sort of confused squinty look on their faces and then they cock their neck forward trying to get a better look. Had one this morning stopped at M59 and Telegraph. Passenger crossing in front of me sort of startled, then rubbernecked the whole way across as his face kept getting more contorted. Haha! I always get a good chuckle out of that.

Hey dave,

First off, awesome bike.

I was wondering where you found that bucket stile headlight. And the functionality of it. I am sure its custom from somewhere but if you wouldn't mind given me some info about it I would appreciate it.

Also, the tire fender huggers, another unique look. Where'd you snag those?

Yes, hi and lo. Light output is plenty bright enough for me. I was just out last night on it -- LATE, so I was using the brights too on some stretches. It comes with a pretty standard H4 Halogen 60/55 watt bulb, which is the same rating as the stock bulb, but it definately has a smoother spread than stock. Stock one's really patchy - bright some areas, dim on others. This one's much more uniform. I'm happy with it.

Awesome. I love the headlight... so bad ass, I like the look with the rear fender myself.

also tardfighter has to be the best name for a motorcycle ever...

Looks great! Something you could do is get one of those super small light weight batteries to replace the stock one and mount it into the rear of the seat by a little cutting and adding a bracket. Also cut down the subframe and push the license plate and lights right up to the back of the seat. You can put the radiator almost anywhere as long as you have an upgraded fan on it. Just a couple of ideas
