Hey guys, I'm a new member here but have been lurking on this site for some time now getting ideas and info on setting up a supermoto bike. Lots of good information here that I used so now I'm gonna contribute with a detailed descriptions and pictures of how to build a cr250r on the cheap. Hope this is helpful for someone, or if not helpful then at least interesting.

I decided to convert my bike after watching a race at a local go cart track in in Seattle at pacific raceways. This info is for those who live in this area interested in supermoto-check it out. It looked like great fun so I started off by getting info on what I need to be out there riding, instead of drooling on the stands.

What I had was a 01 cr250. A 2-stroke? yeah I know, but I didn't want to buy a new bike at this time just so I could have a 4-stroke supermoto. I bought the bike or traded I should say about 1/2 a year ago. Bike was in excellent condition on original build, cost me about $1600 total. Trail rode it a bit then parked it in the garage while I got married this summer.

I thought of lacing my own wheels at first, but then started periodically checking craigslist for supermoto wheels and craigslist didn't let me down. I found 17" wheels, with billet hubs, with black Behr rims, with two sets of tires, 320mm rotor and caliper relocator, rear rotor and sprocket all together for $450 smackers. Quit a bargain. First tip here: craigslist for parts.

I was fortunate to find this guy cuz he planned on doing supermoto racing so he had everything necessary to put the bike on the track. I also got from him catch cans, acerbis hand guards, front rear and peg sliders, elbow sliders :), and then some supermoto dvds to keep me entertained-all for $90. Not bad. At this time I'm in $540, not bad considering everything I got. Plus I get to keep my dirt wheels intact incase I decide to do some trail riding once in a while. A win win situation.

The only big downside to this deal is that the wheels were not off a cr250r. In fact, they aren't even off a honda but a suzuki rmz450. The deal was too good to pass up, and my wife didn't object at the amount I was spending so I decided I would make them work.

I'm posting some pictures of what I got. I didn't take pictures right away so some of the stuff is on the bike already. Everything but the wheels was brand new. The wheels as you can see are not perfect, some of the black rubbed off the front rim were the brake line was rubbing, some scratches here and there, but overall good straight wheels. I will cover up the rubbed off part with some kind of rim sticker later. The rear is a 5" by the way.

So this is where I started. I had the parts and the bike now it was just a matter of putting everything together. Unfortunately this is where things got a little difficult. I will continue this later cuz I got things to do now. Enjoy

Sometimes it's a good thing to go into a low slide on your motorcycle. Santa Rosa police say a fast-thinking motorcycle rider laid down his bike Thursday when he saw that a vehicle ahead of him was coming to a sudden stop on Fourth Street near College Avenue. In making the decision, the rider maged to slide under the vehicle and avoided serious injury.
